Psyllium, or Isabgol is the common name used for several members of the plant genus Plantago, the seeds of which are used commercially for the production of mucilage. The plant has long, narrow leaves and contains both soluble fibre and insoluble fiber. Psyllium is used as a dietary fiber to relieve constipation, treat piles and ulcers and mild diarrhoea, and occasionally as a cooling agent as well.
