Cumin Seeds or Jeera come from the Cuminum cyminum plant. This herb is popularly used for a strong aroma and slightly bitter, earthy taste. When heated, cumin seeds release essential oils rich in cuminaldehyde, releasing flavour into the oil, adding a strong and flavourful blend to the dish. It is excellent as a tardka or tempering. Cumin seeds are used in herbal remedies as a digestive appetite stimulant. Our cumin seeds retain their essence for long and can be added by infusing in hot oil.
